Post-spring 2014 Graduation Career Opportunities

• RESEARCH ASSISTANT, CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL CU SPORTS MEDICINE DEPT, ANSCHUTZ MEDICAL CAMPUS for SPRING 2014 or RECENT GRADUATES
• PROGRAM OVERVIEW: The Sports Medicine Program for Young Athletes at Children's Hospital Colorado in Aurora, Colorado will be filling a full-time Research Assistant position starting late June, early July. The position is intended for recent graduates who are interested in Sports Medicine, preferably have some prior involvement in research, and are looking for research and clinical experience in preparation for a professional career in the medical field.
• The MRC was founded in 2006 to provide a program within the Orthopedic Institute (OI) that promotes the academic and professional development of OI faculty and research staff by fostering exemplary clinical research in pediatric orthopaedics. Areas of research interests include role of genetics in musculoskeletal disorders, sports medicine, spinal deformities, and hip pathologies. Collaborative efforts between the Center for Gait and Movement Analysis (CGMA), MRC, the Orthopaedic Department and the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department allow expanded access to a diverse array of research interests and patient conditions.
DESCRIPTION OF RESEARCH ACTIVITIES: Research assistants are expected to coordinate physicians and other members of the sports medicine program to design, implement, and disseminate clinical research. Research activities may include performing literature reviews, completing institutional review board applications, chart reviews, consenting patients, conducting research visits for data collection, review of patient records, data entry, presenting findings at local and national meetings, and writing manuscripts. Research collaboration with other specialties is very common.
QUALIFICATIONS: All candidates must have an undergraduate degree, or must be expecting to receive one in the spring of 2014. Proficiency in writing and use of Microsoft Office as well as a general understanding of musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology is expected. Research experience is preferred but not required.
COMMITMENT: All candidates must be able to commit to at least two full years in the position before beginning professional school.

THE FULLBRIGHT PROGRAM
• What: The U.S. government’s flagship program for international educational exchange (CU-Boulder is a top producing campus for U.S. Student Fulbright grants)

• Global Seminar: Conservation Biology & Practice in Brazil's Atlantic Forest (Nazaré Paulista)
• Earn three credits this May in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest on this exciting CU-Boulder Global Seminar. Obtain hands-on experience in the principles and practice of conservation biology. Experience operational conservation programs in the Serra do Mar Biodiversity Corridor, participate in community-based conservation solutions, and much more. Students from a range of disciplines with an interest in conservation are encouraged to apply. The course (EBIO 4100/5100) meets EBIO's 4000 and ENVS Application requirements.

• Global Seminar: Gender, Race, & Tourism in Contemporary Cuba (Havana, Cuba)
• Study Gender, Race, & Tourism this summer in Cuba through an anthropological lens for 5 weeks and earn 6 credits. You will visit museums, places of cultural and historical relevance, and there will be excursions to other parts of the country beyond the capital city of Havana. The program is open to all majors and there is no Spanish language requirement.

• CU-Boulder students have an exciting new opportunity this year to combine an independent research experience with the acclaimed existing Global Seminar in Bolivia! Earn 3 credits in 2 weeks on while studying democracy and development. Gain an inside perspective of the strategies and political organization of rural communities with a unique cultural and agricultural history. Students who participate in the Global Seminar: Bolivia will have the opportunity to spend an additional 3 weeks and earn additional credits for an independent research experience, working collaboratively with Bolivian college students and in partnership with local community organizations, governmental agencies, small businesses, and international NGOs.

Messages about Disabilities: Overcoming the Impact of What "They" Say about Us
• This workshop series is for students with disabilities who want to explore how they are affected by social messages about disabilities and how they can limit that impact and even move beyond it. No need to register in advance. Just show up at noon.

• WHO: Glenda Russell, Ph.D. and Amelia Dickerson will facilitate the workshop series. Glenda Russell is a psychologist in Counseling and Psychological Services at CU. She has completed research and clinical work on many topics including the impact of social oppression on individuals and groups.
• WHO: Amelia Dickerson is a former student and current faculty member at CU as well as a person living with a disability. A perceived lack of programs to help individuals (including herself) to deal with stresses related to inequity for people with disabilities, inspired her to work with Dr. Russell to create this workshop series.

Pre-MED

SALUD HEALTH INTERNSHIP
• Each intern will begin with the Patient Experience Survey and the Patient Portal project. Both will involve working with patients as they wait for their appointments. You will be asked to do at least one 4-hour shift, either 8am-12:30pm or 12:30pm-5pm, M-F per week. Moderate competency in Spanish is desired, although it may be possible to team up with another student who has greater Spanish skills.
• The idea is to create a team of students who will be invested in helping Salud health clinics improve patient care in a variety of ways. It is a wonderful chance to see close-up how complex and rewarding care to under-served populations can be. The next projects will include working in the Comprehensive Care program, on the Mobile Unit, and participating in group medical visits, all with an evaluation component. There will also be opportunities to do data analysis on the various projects.

An application and interview will be required, and if selected, you will do HIPPA, etc, trainings online, and project trainings on campus. We will also ask for documentation of common vaccinations. • ROCKY MOUNTAIN FERTILITY CENTER, OFFICE & LAB ASSISTANT FULL-TIME POSITION
Rocky Mountain Fertility Center, a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility practice in Parker, Colorado is seeking a full time office and laboratory assistant in the area of In Vitro fertilization and Andrology.
Responsibilities include performing semen analysis, intrauterine insemination preparations, sperm cryopreservation/thawing and sperm morphology assessment. Qualified candidates will assist with the care of the infertility patient to include: assisting with rooming patients, collaborate with the physician, embryologists and nurses in implementing infertility treatment plans (phone calls, tracking down lab results, imputing orders into the computer), assist with Intrauterine Inseminations procedures, teach patients how to use fertility medications, maintain databases for IVF cycles, donor oocyte cycles, insemination cycles and gonadotropin cycles. Assist with front office duties (charts, phones and scheduling) when needed. Assist with medical/ drug supply inventory. Perform the role of assistant to the clinical staff to assist with medical care. Provide patient counseling and education on pertinent health issues. Salary is commensurate with experience.
HOURS: The position is full-time (36 hours) and involves participation in weekend/holiday rotations and potential travel to offsite locations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Potential candidates must have either a Bachelor degree in Science or MLT certification. Excellent computer skills a must. Previous experience with Word, Excel and Outlook mandatory. Experience with Greenway EMR and Access a plus. The successful candidate must be highly motivated, detail oriented, work well independently as well as with a team. Must be able to perform phlebotomy, be sensitive to patients, and be able to effectively communicate with patients and other healthcare professionals.
