Academic Skills Workshops

ACADEMIC SKILLS WORKSHOPS COMING UP:

Time Is on Your Side: Managing your minutes , Feb. 12 (W): 11am-Noon, C4C-N320
• For those of us who cannot stop, bend, or create extra time, this workshop is for you. Do you have problems managing your time? Are you a procrastinator? Are you serious about getting away from the habit of pulling all-nighters? Learn the basic skills to succeed, how to plan out your academics for your learning benefit!


Showdown of the Titans: MLA versus APA Bibliographic Forms and Philosophies, Feb.13 (Th): 2-3pm, Fleming 150. Presenter: Dr. Peter Kratzke, Writing & Rhetoric
• The chances are pretty high that you will need to produce papers in both MLA and APA formats, so see how the two differ not so much in their specifics--specifics are simply a matter of following instructions--but in their philosophies about how "knowledge is constructed"!


Test Anxiety/Stress Management, Feb. 17 (M): 3-4pm, Fleming 265 A&B, Presenter: Hannah Koch, Pre-Doctoral Therapist, Counseling and Psychological Services
• Stress and anxiety are often synonymous with taking exams. Some anxiety can aid performance, too much can interfere. Learn tools you can utilize to help you. This workshop will review related study skills strategies as well as some direct calming techniques which can be applied while taking tests.

Setting Up Successful Study Groups! Feb. 26 (W): 1-2pm, C4C-N320
• Working with others on class projects and studying for tests can be an essential component of your academic success. We will look at best practices and guidelines to help you reap the highest rewards possible!


Test Shmest: Learning the Skills to Make THAT Test a Piece of Cake! Feb. 27 (Th): 2-3pm
Fleming 150
• What would it take to do better on your tests? Good test preparation includes organization, correcting habits that don’t work. Identify your strengths and create personalized test-taking strategies that are specific to you.


Yoga for Every Student, Feb. 28 (F): Noon-1pm, Fleming 265A, Presentation by Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher
• This special workshop will teach you breathing (pranayama) and simple yoga poses proven to reduce stress. No special equipment needed (bring your yoga mat, if desired for C4C. We have a few mats for those who RSVP to the Fleming Workshops). Dress in relaxed clothing that is easy to sit in. Simple moves that you can integrate immediately into your life.


Academic Skills Open Walk In Hours Feb. 24 (M): 1-3pm, Fleming 190
• Need help in any academic study area but can’t make it to the workshops offered? Bring in your question(s) and we will help you identify what you can do to improve your academic skills! First come, first served!
